Updated IPL Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After MI vs RR Match

Image
In what was the 1000th match in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians chased down a gigantic target of 213 runs against Rajasthan Royals to keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. The victory was MI's 4th from 8 matches while RR squandered the opportunity to regain the top spot in the points table with the defeat. It was Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored his maiden IPL ton to set the perfect stage for the Royals but Tim David and Suryakumar Yadav 's heroics at the end enable MI to take two points from the game. Updated IPL 2023 Points Table: Rajasthan Royals would've gone top of the IPL 2023 points table had they beaten Mumbai Indians on Sunday but a defeat for them meant that defending champions Guajrat Titans remained on top with 12 points to their name. A total of 4 teams have 10 points each to their name, with Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings occupying the next four spots. Delhi Capitals...

Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Roll Out Per-Article Payment Plan for Media Publishers

Elon Musk on Saturday announced a plan for his Twitter platform to allow media publishers to charge users on a per-article basis with a single click. "This enables users who would not sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher per article price for when they want to read an occasional article," the billionaire entrepreneur said on Twitter, adding, "Should be a major win-win for both media orgs & the public." He said the plan would begin next month, but provided no details on exact pricing or what cut Twitter would take. The announcement came as Musk has been struggling, amid frequent controversy, to make Twitter profitable. Watch: David Slams 3 Sixes To Clinch Win For MI. Sachin's Reaction Is Gold

Tim David emerged as the hero for Mumbai Indians as the all-rounder slammed three sixes in three balls to guide his team to victory over Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter on Sunday. With 17 runs needed from the final over, the ball was handed to Jason Holder but the start was not as expected. David slammed the first ball straight down the ground for a six and then followed it up with another maximum through mid-wicket. The pressure was completely on the West Indies international and the third ball was also dispatched over the deep square leg fielder for the final six. The crowd erupted in cheers and even Sachin Tendulkar could be seen smiling. Rohit Sharma's "Next Level" Praise For Centurian Yashasvi Jaiswal

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday said it was heartening to see his team chase down a big total set by Rajasthan Royals and also praised rival batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, saying he was surprised with the power the youngster packed in his strokes. Jaiswal's blazing 124-run knock helped the Royals score 212 for seven. The 21-year-old had 16 boundaries and eight sixes from the 62 deliveries he faced. Despite the young opener's knock, the Royals lost the match by six wickets with three deliveries to spare. Rohit indicated he saw in Jaiswal the potential to make it to the India side. "I watched him (Jaiswal) last year, he's taken it to the next level. I asked him 'where did you get the power from'. He said he's been going to the gym, that's good for him, India and RR," Rohit said at the post-match presentation. Jaiswal, who was adjudged 'Player of the Match', said he wants to keep working hard and focus on the process. "When I ...

"Plans Wrong Or Execution Bad?": Dhoni's Blunt Take On CSK's Loss vs PBKS

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left ruing the four-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings in their own den, saying the bowlers need to be more aware of the situation and also indicated that the execution was probably "bad". CSK had a good chance of victory after posting 200 for four at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, thanks chiefly to another Devon Conway special of unbeaten 92, but the Shikhar Dhawan-led side hit the winning runs off the last ball to silence the yellow brigade on Sunday. "We lost it in a couple of overs in the middle. You need to be aware what you need to bowl and be clear because the batters will be going for it (big hits). (Matheesha) Pathirana bowled well but other than that, we need to see if the plans were wrong or the execution was bad," said Dhoni. Barring openers Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad (37), none of the other batters could make an impact and Dhoni felt his team could have scored another 10 runs. "We should be doing bette...

IPL 2023: Tim David Steals The Show As MI Beat RR By 6 Wickets In Run-Fest

An unbeaten 62-run partnership between middle-order batters Tilak Varma (29 not out) and Tim David (45 not out), coupled with a half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (55), helped Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals by six wickets in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday. Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 213 with three balls to spare, reaching 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs. Young Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal 's fine century and a 72-run partnership with skipper Jos Buttler went in vain as the team suffered a defeat despite putting a mammoth score on the board. Jaiswal's 124 off 62 balls, studded with 16 boundaries and eight maximums, came off just 62 deliveries at a strike rate of 200. Brief Scores: Rajasthan Royals: 212 for 7 in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 124; Arshad Khan 3/39). Mumbai Indians: 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs ( Cameron Green 44, Suryakumar Yadav 55, Tim David 45 not out; R Ashwin 2/27). (This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated f...

"We Can't Be This Sloppy": Rana's Brutal KKR Assessment After GT Defeat

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana was extremely critical of his side and he lamented the lack of partnerships during the loss against Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Saturday. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was in sparkling form with an explosive 81 but the other batters were unable to play big knocks and as a result, KKR fell 10-20 runs short of a competitive total. Rana said that his side was ‘sloppy' and pointed out that they will have to “do well in these little moments”. “I think we were 20-25 runs short, up against top teams, we can't be this sloppy with the bat. We didn't get partnerships developing, other than Gurbaz and Russell, no one else, including me, scored. If we got a good partnership in the middle overs, we could have done better. In crucial games and against top oppositions, you need to do all the basics well in all the three departments of the game. The batting was ok today, but we didn't bowl well. Need to do well in the smal...

Watch: Kohli Imitates Faf's Unique Batting Style. Reaction Is Pure Gold

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis have been the top performers for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and both batters are ranked among the top when it comes to the Orange Cap list. In the past couple of years, Du Plessis and Kohli have also developed a camaraderie that has translated onto the pitch, and in a video going viral on social media, both of them were having fun on the field. In the video, Kohli was shadow-practicing just behind Du Plessis and he was trying to copy the unique batting stance of the South Africa international. Kohli played few shots in the South African's style and both of them broke into laughter after some time. Virat Kohli scored his fifth half-century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season but his knock went in vain as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were beaten comprehensively by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday. With RCB chasing 201 against KKR, Kohli hit 54 off 37 deliveries but didn't ha...

After Gavaskar Suggests Rohit "To Take A Break", MI Coach's Clear Update

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher on Saturday said team captain Rohit Sharma has not asked for rest in the ongoing Indian Premier League, but will look into it if he does. Rohit has featured regularly in what has been an ordinary campaign for Mumbai Indians in the IPL this year, with the five-time winners currently placed at the eighth spot at the halfway mark and requiring a lot to do in order to move up the standings. Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had recently suggested that MI and India captain Rohit should take a break from the IPL in order to keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship final against Australia from June 7-11 at The Oval in London. “No, I don't think he should take rest. That's not my call to make. Obviously, we want Rohit playing, because he's a very good player, and a leader as well," Boucher told the media ahead of MI's clash against Rajasthan Royals here on Sunday. "If it is the best for Rohit, and he comes up to me and sa...

"Might Be A Special Plan": KKR Star On Shardul Coming Out To Bat At No 3

Specialist seam bowler Shardul Thakur not being given a single over in KKR's seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans on Saturday raised eye-brows but opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz said that fitness might not be the issue. Asked if fitness was a concern for Shardul, Gurbaz said: "If you are not fit enough, then you will not play. It might be that the team doesn't need him to bowl. The captain knows it better." Making a comeback after a niggle, Shardul was promoted in batting order at No. 3 as a pinch hitter, a move that did not work as he capped a four-ball duck. "The coach and management know better than me. I can't say anything on this," said Gurbaz. "This might be a special plan. They might have discussed before the game. He might have liked to bat in the top-order". Picked in India's World Test Championship Final-bound squad against Australia, Shardul has played six of KKR's nine matches, in which he has bowled just 11.5 ov...

IPL 2023: Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis Sizzle In LSG's Win Over PBKS

Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Mayers put on a power-hitting masterclass as Lucknow Super Giants slayed Punjab Kings by 56 runs in a high-scoring contest on Friday after amassing the second highest total in IPL history. A display of brutal hitting from Mayers (54 off 24) and Stoinis (72 off 40) fired Lucknow Super Giants to 257 for five against a profligate Punjab Kings. Needing almost 13 runs per over to pull off an improbable chase, Punjab remained behind in the game despite scoring at a decent rate to end with 201 in 19.5 overs. Atharava Taide batted well for 66 off 36 balls, his maiden fifty plus score in IPL, but the likes of Liam Livingstone (36 off 22) and Sikandar Raza (23 off 14) could not stay long enough to put pressure on the opposition. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan lasted only two balls on his return. Young pacer Yash Thakur was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/37 in 4 overs. It was LSG's fifth win in eight matches while Punjab Kings suffered their fourht loss i...

Here's What Microsoft Can Do in $69 Billion Activision Deal After UK Ban

Britain's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on Wednesday blocked Microsoft's $69 billion (nearly Rs. 5,64,100 crore) acquisition of Call of Duty  maker Activision Blizzard over concerns it would hinder cloud gaming . The ruling was a shock after the regulator had already resolved its concerns about the consoles market, a sector dominated by Sony 's PlayStation and Microsoft 's Xbox , which dwarfs cloud gaming. Is the deal dead? Not necessarily. Microsoft said it remained fully committed and would appeal. The regulator's decision reflected a flawed understanding of the market, it said. How does the appeal process work? Microsoft can appeal to Britain's Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), an independent judicial body, which will only examine the CMA's decision-making process, not the merits of the merger. Microsoft will not be able to offer new remedies at this stage, such as offering to keep Activision content off its Xbox Game Pass , a subscrip...

"Even Dhoni Has Spoken...": Ex India Star On Rahanes Resurrection At CSK

The revival of veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane in T20 cricket has been a surprise to many. Bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of INR 50 lakh, Rahane has done wonders with the bat for the franchise, emerging as one of the top run-getters in the competition. His heroics with the bat also seems to have played a role in his return to the national team for the ICC World Test Championship final. While Rahane has been the talk of the two for a few weeks now, former India batter Pravin Amre revealed that even MS Dhoni has been talking about the technique that the veteran India star has shown this campaign. "We just reminded him how he came into the international arena through T20 (39-ball 61 at Old Trafford, in August 2011). It's a coincidence that his T20 performance has helped him make a comeback. Hard work always pays, when he was dropped nobody thought he will come back. He had a very good Ranji season, and got a double hundred. We are seeing the new version ...

iPhones, AirPods Replaced With Replicas by E-Commerce Delivery Executive in Gurugram

A delivery executive of an e-commerce firm allegedly stole 10 iPhones by replacing them with dummy phones on the way to deliver them to the customer here, police said on Thursday. Station in-charge of Matrix Finance Solution, which delivers Amazon 's parcel, Ravi in his complaint alleged that on March 27 delivery executive Lalit was handed over a customer's parcel, which contained 10 iPhones and an AirPods , at his address, they said. However, instead of delivering the parcel, Lalit replaced the iPhones with replicas and sent his brother Manoj to deposit them back to the company claiming that the customer could not be contacted, Ravi said in his complaint. Microsoft Hits Back at UK Regulator's Decision to Block Activision Acquisition

Microsoft's president Brad Smith said the UK regulator's decision to prevent its acquisition of Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard "had shaken confidence" in Britain as a destination for tech businesses. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which operates independently from government, blocked the deal on Wednesday, saying it could hit competition in the nascent cloud gaming market. Microsoft hit back on Thursday, saying it was "probably the darkest day in our four decades in Britain" and sent the wrong message to the global tech industry about the UK. "If the government of the United Kingdom wants to bring in investment, if it wants to create jobs (...) it needs to look hard at the role of the CMA, the regulatory structure in the United Kingdom, this transaction, and the message that the United Kingdom has just said to the world," he told BBC radio. A spokesman for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Smith's comments were...

Microsoft, Alphabet, Other AI Companies Urged to Prioritize Security Measures for New Technologies

The chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday urged CEOs of several artificial intelligence (AI) companies to prioritize security measures, combat bias, and responsibly roll out new technologies. Democratic Senator Mark Warner raised concerns about potential risks posed by AI technology. "Beyond industry commitments, however, it is also clear that some level of regulation is necessary in this field," said Warner, who sent letters to the CEOs of OpenAI , Scale AI,  Meta Platforms ,  Alphabet 's Google , Apple , Stability AI, Midjourney, Anthropic, Percipient.ai, and Microsoft . "With the increasing use of AI across large swaths of our economy, and the possibility for large language models to be steadily integrated into a range of existing systems, from healthcare to finance sectors, I see an urgent need to underscore the importance of putting security at the forefront of your work," Warner said. KKR Defeat RCB By 21 Runs, Return To Winning Ways

Kolkata Knight Riders conjured up a spin magic after Jason Roy 's sterling fifty as they snapped their four-match losing streak with a 21-win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The English opener led the show with a 29-ball 56 as Kolkata Knight Riders batters fired in unison to notch up a fighting 200/5 after RCB captain Virat Kohli opted to bowl at their home den. But the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy (3/24) and rookie Suyash Sharma (2/30) created a top-order mayhem, before Andre Russell (2/29) broke Kohli's resistance to restrict RCB to 179 for eight. Leading the side in absence of Faf Du Plessis, Kohli struck a 34-ball 54 and kept their hopes up in the 201-run chase after du Plessis (17) Glenn Maxwell (5) fell cheaply. India on Tuesday announced the squad for World Test Championship final against Australia that is slated to kick off on June 7 at the Oval, London. The highlights of the selection were the inclusion of Ajinkya Rahane into the team and the exclusion of Suryakumar Yadav from the 15-member squad. From the Indian squad that featured against Australia in the 3rd and 4th Test, Kuldeep Yadav and Ishan Kishan were also also among the notable absentees. Shreyas Iyer couldn't be a part of the team owing to an injury. On the other hand, all-rounder Shardul Thakur has also been included in the squad for the WTC final. Impressed by the squad named for the summit clash, former India captain and ex-coach Ravi Shastri lauded the BCCI selectors and management. "Best Indian team selected. "Keyboard Warriors": Australia Great Shuts Down Arjun Tendulkar's Critics

Arjun Tendulkar has seen both ends of the spectrum in his short IPL career so far. After taking a wicket in the last over against SunRisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2023 match, Arjun conceded 48 runs in three overs against Punjab Kings. In that match he also conceded 31 runs in one over, which is the second-most costliest over by a MI bowler. Against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, Arjun, son of Sachin Tendulkar , began on a promising note and conceded four runs in the opening over after his skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first on winning the toss. MI didn't have to wait long for their first breakthrough as Wriddhiman Saha missed an attempted pull shot to edge one to the keeper off Tendulkar in the first ball of the third over. Having taken his partner Shubman Gill's advice, Saha reviewed, but the on-field umpire's decision was retained by UltraEdge. It was a nice comeback by Tendulkar junior, four days after being smacked for 48 runs in three overs by Punjab Kings. Growing ...

IPL 2023: Shubman Gill, Noor Ahmad Star In GT's 55-Run Win Over MI

Gujarat Titans produced a clinical performance to outclass Mumbai Indians by 55 runs in a completely one-sided IPL match on Tuesday. Set a stiff target of 208, MI were stopped at 152 for nine. MI didn't get the kind of start they would have liked and were struggling at 29 for the loss of captain Rohit Sharma's wicket in six overs, the team failing miserably to utilise the powerplay. While trying to work the ball on the onside, Rohit got a leading edge and ended up giving a return catch to his opposite number, Hardik Pandya, in the second over. After the seamers have done their job, star leg-spinner Rashid Khan came on and bowled a very economical first over. MI managed to score 13 runs in the seventh over, before Rashid ended Ishan Kishan's painstaking stay in the middle. Ishan consumed an many as 21 balls for his 13 runs. Three balls later, Rashid had Tilak Varma trapped in front of the wicket to leave MI reeling at 45 for three in the eighth over. From there, five-tim...

IPL 2023: Skipper Aiden Markram Slams SRH Batters For 'Lack Of Intent'

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram minced no words as he analysed the team's performance against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Chasing a mediocre target of 145 runs, the Hyderabad franchise could only muster up 137 for 6 wickets, hence losing the match by 7 runs. After the end of the game, Markram admitted being disappointed by his batting unit that failed to show any intent in the match against the Capitals. He also said that the SRH bowling unit doesn't deserve to be on the losing side. "Not good with the bat. Not enough intent, not excited to win a game of cricket unfortunately. We have to go back and see how we can be free and be better. It is difficult, you can say all the right things but guys have to buy into it. We want to play a certain brand of cricket and if we get it wrong doing that then we'll sleep a lot better at night. "Paid The Price...": Prithvi Shaw's Fitness Under Scanner As DC Drop Star

Prithvi Shaw is definitely not going through the best of his times. The batter scored 47 runs across 6 matches for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 before he was not even named in the list of substitute players during the side's victory against SunRisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has criticised out-of-form batter Shaw. Doull has questioned his fitness and added that the youngster hsa paid the price of not adjusting his game. "You can't continue down the same road. If things aren't working you have to change it up and he has to understand that where he is at in his game. It's just not good enough. There was an incident with the run-out situation in Bangalore with (David) Warner. He sat on the backside of the bench the whole time when Delhi were fielding and did nothing and later when he came out he was lazy with the running. These little things in the game that come back to haunt you at times. He ...
